Hello Everyone!! I have so much catching up to do with our pictures that I must apologize...we are having some difficulty downloading our pictures from our phone to the blog and that is really slowing down our progress. I promise we will post the fair pictures and the others soon.
Work is going well, though it takes away from blogging time! I am learning more and more about clinic nursing vs. hospital nursing. In the ER I was used to making a child do what they needed to do because that was best for their health; now, at the pediatrician's office there is a different mentality that involves catering to the child and parent and basically avoiding anything that will make the child uncomfortable at all costs (except for those pesky immunizations!). So, for me it is a different approach...for example, in the ER if a child needed to be weighed, the child got weighed and no amount of kicking and screaming would get in the way. But, now, I'm learning how to dance around and try all kinds of tricks and plans to just get the child to stand on the scale...hmmm, I'm learning. I have already given out so many stickers and toys as "peace offerings"! The different approaches certainly make sense, because you want your child to like coming to their pediatrician and to feel safe and happy there. When the child comes to the ER we bank on the fact that they aren't scared to death of their pediatrician because that helps them not be as scared of us in the ER. In the ER the emergent nature of the visit doesn't allow for a lot of relationship building like you have in the office. Right now, I'm still missing the ED but we'll see if that changes after doing this for a while. Either way, I am glad that I will know how to do both. The other nurses and staff that I work with are super nice and helpful, so that makes things a lot easier!
I want to just take a minute and brag on my sweet hubby. He is such an amazing doctor and treats his patients and their families so well. I find it to be a wonderful experience to be able to work in the same office as him He already has a wonderful reputation in the town and it makes me so proud when random people tell me how they have heard such wonderful things about Dr. Salmon and how they hope he will stay in Aberdeen! I know that my honey's heart of humility has allowed God to shine through him so much.
We still don't know what is coming next at the end of October, but we are constantly being presented with different possibilities that either don't work out or they are given to someone else...so we wait on the Lord.
We miss you all and trust the Lord to keep you until we are able to see you again.
Amanda
