Hello everyone,
I hope all is well back in Alabama and in all of the other places my beautiful wife's mighty blog reaches. I'm back for my second ever blog post. The reviews for my first were pretty positive so I must be a natural. Last week was fantastic. Being off work was great, of course, but getting to see two new cities was the highlight. Minneapolis is kind of like a nicer Atlanta with lots of lakes and walking trails. Sioux Falls is a nice smaller city, probably similar in size to Birmingham but with a great revitalized downtown area and a few cool restaurants. Now I'm back to the grindstone at work and things are going well. Two new doctors have started in the past two days and they are both very nice and seem to want to work as a team with me as a member, not just a temporary "hired gun." It worked out that since they are starting right now I only need to work one weekend this month instead of the two like last month (and probably two again next month but I'll cross my fingers!). The office continues to be a normal pediatrics office but things are somewhat frustrating since we are transferring onto a full electronic medical record system which started right after I got here. Each patient probably has 20 minutes more of documentation than the old system but they tell me it will improve once everyone is in the system and things are fully converted. My overnight calls are getting easier to handle. I have more faith that I'll wake up to the pager and Amanda has been fantastic in her support of our sometimes frequent midnight calls. With us as a team I know nothing will be missed. My last call night was actually much worse than any other with a long trip late at night to the hospital and then 5 - 10 more calls from midnight until 4 am but there is a silver lining: I'm still here and haven't collapsed or gone crazy or smashed the pager. I'm sure nights could be worse (most were in residency) but I know that I don't need to worry as much as before and things will work out. We're excited because Amanda is going to start working next week as a clinic nurse and that will be a new challenge for her with a variety of new environments. I know she'll do great. There's rumor that she might work in my clinic so we might be a true power couple of Pediatrics! Well, talk to you all again soon. Please call us and talk if you get the chance; texts and emails are nice but a phone call or two would be great also.
Jason
Hi guys. Glad everything is going well. I enjoyed the pics of your travels. I love seeing news sites. I'm glad Amanda is getting to work as a nurse while ya'll are there. It would be great if ya'll ended up working together. Take care and keep the info coming. Thanks
