Hey everyone, we've been in a skiing mecca for more than a month and finally made it to the slopes today. This was my 4th or 5th time but it was my first with a wedding ring and my fantastic honey. This was her first ever time skiing which was highlighted by her presence in the Yellowbird "Never-Ever" ski school. From my perspective, Taos Mountain is crazy hard! Things that would be intermediate or "blue" runs in Colorado were just beginner runs today! At one point I looked down a steep decline and truly wondered if I had turned onto a black diamond! By the way, I was in the Greenbird "skiied a few times but really don't know much" ski school and got one-on-one teaching with an awesome older ski dude named Rick...the class is supposed to be group but I really lucked out and learned more in 2 hours than in all my times by myself put together.
Here's my honey in full gear about to take the bunny slope ready to go!
These are our lift tickets...Yellowbird on the left and my Greenbird on the right.
This was our much needed lunch break in the cafeteria. We were both already sore and tired and some good chicken sandwich, corn dog, and fries really hit the spot. Oh well, back to the slopes.
The Yellowbird "Never-ever" ski school Jan 10, 2010 class!
Here's the first run down the slope I saw my sweetie take...something with the camera makes it look slower than reality...or perhaps it has to do with the angle. I love how she stops at the bottom!
Here's a big run later on with some superb commentary.
Here we are on the open-air "shuttle" heading into the sunset after a great day. I am so proud of my honey for her determination and effort on her first day. She got down at times when she wasn't an expert but I'm sure anyone reading this can reassure her that skiing takes practice. I was barely above beginner level on my 4th or 5th time out! We're heading back for more soon and will keep you updated on our exploits.
Keep warm,
Jason
