Today is my honey's first day on the job...I'm so proud of him. Doctors do things differently here, but he has jumped in head first, ready to learn! He didn't know this, but after being given a tour of the hospital, he had patients scheduled to see him starting at 10am and the other doctor that was supposed to be working with my honey is gone on vacation! So, on my honey's first day he is a "lone ranger"! He says the clinic nurses are very helpful and that he is very grateful for their expertise.
I have had two breakdowns so far since our arrival! The day we arrived we drove to our condo which is on main street, but it is not a very pretty area of Aberdeen. I felt like we had moved to a yucky town and I really felt like I was out of place because the people seemed so different from me. So, I cried and felt much better the second day (I learned that this is a completely normal response; for a female especially). That day we were able to drive around and explore the beautiful parts of Aberdeen and find that this is a charming town. Then yesterday I broke down again because I wasn't going to be working at the hospital and I wouldn't know who or what my honey would be talking about when he came home from work because I wasn't working with him. As long as we have known each other, we have always both worked in the same place...we didn't really see each other that much but we were familiar with each other's surroundings. I realized that I was afraid that I was going to be "left in the dust" and that I would become insignificant. Once I got that out with my honey, I felt much better and later found out that that also was a normal response! Wow, change really stretches us, but I am glad that we are growing and changing together! This has also been a great reminder to me that I still need to find my identity and significance in God, not in my career or my honey...good reminder!
I am looking in to volunteering at the local hospital as this would allow me to have flexible hours that would let me be off when my honey is off. Volunteering at the information desk or in the gift shop would be different and I think it would be enjoyable. I have a meeting with the lady who is over the volunteers on Monday at 11am. We'll see what comes of that.
BTW, new address for now: 104 S. Main Street, Unit 3P, Aberdeen, SD, 57401
