Hey again, sorry to our devotees that we haven't blogged much but things have been hectic with the snow and holidays and work. We have made 2 trips in the past month down to Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Santa Fe has a beautiful, charming old town area with a plaza which we loved. We could have walked around looking at thing for hours!
Me and my honey next to a giant metal elk. It turns out that deer can go higher in the mountains than elk, so the majority of hunting is for elk. Lots of places have elk meat, elk burgers, elk jerky, etc.
This is a look down the main strip along the central plaza with a famous Catholic church at the end. I just think that the area and the view of the mountains in the background is so beautiful!
Here's the little cafe we ate lunch in. We sat right in that window and watched people go by the entire meal. The food was great, but the people were probably even better. It's amazing the range of people you will see in New Mexico, from cowboys to ski bums to hippies to rich folks and everything in between. If anyone comes to visit we'll have to get to Santa Fe for some sightseeing...it's only and hour and 15 minutes from Taos.
These are pictures of the old Catholic church down from the plaza...it was filled with sightseers and even had an elderly gentleman walking around telling facts about the place. Very cool! We loved the nativity scene (hard to find around Taos), but take a look and see if anything seems a little less than historically accurate! (A clue is to take a look at the animals)
This is another old church nearby...just thought it was a pretty picture. We didn't go inside it because they were charging 10 bucks a person...the other one was nicer anyway!
Well, as this title mentions, one of our Santa Fe trips was on New Years Eve. Jason had planned to get back to Taos around 6pm to see the Torchlight parade where skiers come down the mountain with torches and it's supposed to be beautiful. Well, since we were mainly on a shopping/gift exchanging trip this time, I didn't expect to be back until maybe 8pm...the ride back had a rough patch when our different expectations came out, but God had a plan to get us back on track. When my honey was supposed to turn at Santa Fe toward Taos, he mistakenly kept right on going on the interstate and we talked and bonded and worked out frustrations and discussed fears for probably another hour. That was amazing, but then we realized we were in the wrong place and had to turn around and head back to Santa Fe and then turn toward Taos. It probably added 2 hours to our trip, but it was worth it. Anyway, we got back to Taos around 10pm and rang in the New Year together with Ryan Seacrest and a very sad Dick Clark on the TV and had a blast! We hope everyone else has had a blessed start to their new year as we have! Talk to you all again soon.
Love,
Mandi
