Philomath Frolic & Rodeo

Hey everyone, I know we mentioned our river float this past weekend, and it was fun, but our trip to the rodeo was the real hit!  About 5-10 miles west of our town there is a smaller town called Philomath, and every year they have their famous "Frolic & Rodeo."  People come from all over for the carnival-like food, animal attractions, and of course the "world-class" rodeo.  We couldn't miss it and here are some highlights.

Above is the add/sign for this thing they have here called "Mutton Bustin" which is basically where little kids ride bucking sheep in a tiny rodeo.  They say repeatedly that this is making the cowboys and rodeo champs of tomorrow.  Now, most kids get assistance from she "sheep wranglers" who basically hold the sheep and walk it across the pin, but some brave ones (with brave parents) sign the waivers to ride solo and take their chances.  Fun and hilarious, check out the quick videos of it below!

After enjoying some sheep wrangling we headed to the petting zoo where they had Pygmy goats, little sheep, and 2 alpacas.

This little girl loved being scratched behind her horns...must be a tough spot for a goat to reach!

Of course, the main event was the bull riding (sorry, the video wouldn't upload).  The bulls must have been on a roll, because only 2 or 3 guys finished the run.  The show stealer was actually a cute little herding dog named Jake who would chase down the giant bulls and herd them by their heels and tails back into the pen.  He probably got more applause than the bull riders and announcers!  Well, hope you enjoyed seeing these things half as much as we enjoyed being there.  Talk to you all again soon.
