Madison tripping and more Halloween fun...

Hey everyone, the Saturday before Halloween we headed down to Madison to explore.  Madison is the home of the University of Wisconsin, the Badgers.  Apparently there are over 40,000 students and the town is a pretty big draw.  We had to get down there before the real cold weather!

Madison is beautiful!  It is vibrant with tons of restored old city homes and people walking and biking everywhere.  There is a lakefront park that is beautiful also, just 5 minutes from the city center you can relax and enjoy the water in relative silence.  There were people playing catch with their dogs and college kids lounging about.

The heart of the action is State Street.  The downtown area is largely revitalized and forms a spoke pattern out from the capitol building.  We picked an especially fun day to go because that night there was a street festival on State Street called "Freakfest."  We got to see many early partiers in a wide range of crazy costumes...made us really miss our annual Halloween fun in Lakeview back home with Mark, Natalie, Justin and Kristen.  State Street has so many cool shops and little restaurants, you could easily spend days exploring.

Mandi making friends downtown!

Our walking tour culminated at the center of downtown with the Capitol Building.  It was so beautiful and big.  Montgomery should take some notes!

That night we drove back home to Wausau and headed out for a fun Halloween haunted hayride.  It was at the same farm where we got our pumpkin and was soooo fun.  We waited 40 minutes or so in line where we saw many interesting people and met a kitten who was quite spunky.  We were going to "rescue" him and take him to the shelter until the owners told us he lived with his mom under the main concession building.  Thankfully we didn't take him away from his mommy!  The hayride was very fun and just the right amount of scary to get the adrenaline and laughter flowing.  Mandi grabbed and swatted at the lady next to her so many times we're lucky we didn't make any enemies.  The only downside was a chainsaw wielding character who climbed into the wagon with us and proceeded to blow gasoline exhaust everywhere...I was more scared of an inhalation injury to my lungs or an asthma attack than his ratty old chainsaw!  Thankfully we both made it out without illness and enjoyed it immensely; we'll have to find one wherever we are next Halloween.

Hopefully everyone had a fun time with Halloween.  I'm not all about worshiping demons or something but I think fun costumes and getting together with friends is definitely a fun evening.  Talk to you all again soon.

Jason
