Winter Wonderland...Really!!!

Really guys, Wausau is actually a bit of a winter wonderland!  We were skeptical at first, but the past few days have shown us the light for sure.  There is a ski mountain here that has a mix of man-made and real snow (mostly man-made right now because we brought a warm winter with us apparently!) with probably 20 or so runs and 3 or 4 lifts.  They have a Wednesday night special where you can get a lift ticket and skis from 4-9pm for only 15 bucks so we ran out there this past week after I got home from work to give it a go.

Here we are...ready to light that candle!  Mandi had only skied once before at Taos (for a few hours) so we were geared up to have a training session.  I might not be great but I can teach a wedge and how to turn on a bunny slope pretty well!

The magic carpet to the "top" of the bunny slope...kinda crazy since I've only been on real chair lifts before.  Definitely beats walking in ski boots though.

Mandi successfully wedging down the slope on her first run...i was so proud.  She can definitely do it and improved greatly from one run to the next, jumping to the green slopes in under 1 hour!

Last night, for my honey's birthday activity (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MANDI!!!), we went tubing at the Sylvan Park Hill here in Wausau.  Beautiful again and definitely fun.

It was about 10 degrees...chilly.  But we were ready to boogie.

They had these fun tie lifts that dragged you up the hill while sitting in your tube.  Not too shabby and kinda neat...but no magic carpet in my humble opinion!

Here I am getting ready to launch head-first down the slope.  Ignore my high-riding ski bib!  And off I went into the night...

Well, as you can see, we've had alot of winter fun in the past week.  Mandi is already planning another ski outing next Wednesday.  Wish you guys could join in but be thankful that you aren't dealing with whiskers that freeze walking to work or noses you can't feel!  Tonight we go out for Mandi's birthday dinner at a fancy joint here called the City Grille...I'm eyeing their prime rib special.  Talk to you again soon.

Jason
